My morning tea
Ma : uther paro taratari, prochur deri hoye jachchhhe, bhalo meye ra bhor 7 ta obdhi ghumoy na
(Get up soon, you are already late,no good girl sleeps till 7 in the morning)
Me : Please ma,deko na ,please, kal anek khon obdhi porechhi
(Please ma,dont ask me to get up,last night I studied for a long time )
Ma : toh? dekh to pasher barir chotto meye ta 5 ta theke gaan practice korchhe..tui ar kono din bhalo meye holi na
( So what ? See, that small girl of our neighbour is practicing singing since 5 in the morning..you never can be a good girl )
Me : Please, ar tulona pele na,,aamar higher seconadry-r anko karar sathe tumi oi fail kara meye tar gaan-er tulona korle..
( Please, you even didnt find any better person to compare with me, you compared my +12 maths with her stupid singing..)
Ma : Ar ki? sei to haari-y thelte habe..se jato daktar- engineeri hao na kano..ei rakom 7/8 ta obdhi ghumole kono chhele biye korbe toke?shashuri mardhor korbe..
(So what? You have to cook even after you become an engineer or doctor .If you sleep till 7/8 AM ,then which guy will marry you? After marriage, you will get thrashing from your mother-in-law )
Me ,neglecting her sentences, starts searching for another blanket..Who wants to see an early morning Sun ?
And then my mother like an angel gives the second trial :
Ma : Oth na..cha thanda hoye galo
( Get up …Tea is getting colder )
Me : Cha, tumi cha korechho..
( You have made tea for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!)…and then suddenly this girl forgets all her morning dreams, nice romantic sleep & gets up…goes to brush her teeth before her favorite morning tea gets cold…..
Ek Garam chai ki pyaali ho………….
I love my morning tea..a cup of hot darjeeling tea without milk & a little sugar –and I feel a good start is happening..oho….Till 12th standard I was not allowed to join the tea party at home,we bengalis are tea lovers ( well we bengalis are the most health conscious !),and in every bengali family a morning does not start without hot tea..darjeeling tea, assam tea, tea without milk, tea with milk malai- Tea comes with so many varities..but children are never ever allowed to taste the great drink..My mom used to say ” No No..not before your wedding, your complexion will look dull”..and I almost knowing that wedding was sooooooooo far, used to cry “When? When? When will you give me a cup of tea?”..(My mom never knew that I already tasted tea without her permission -where??During summer vacation, at my grand ma’s place..She never told anything about the complexion though,,thats why She was/is my favorite!)
I am a late riser person..I love the morning sleep, and I love darjeeling tea too..after 12th ,I think my two loves used to fight with each other every single day–some times Tea won, some times my sleep…..
Days passed, and then I moved to my first job location, where mom was not there to give me a wake up call with my favorite darjeeling tea.For couple of months I used to miss three of them – my mom, morning sleep & morning tea. There everyone was coffee lover, and I ,a coffee hater ( who can give you thousand bad comments against coffee) used to miss my loves. On one sunday, there was no one to give me company in breakfast table.I was alone that day.I thought about my loves again , It was 9 AM in the morning,a hot summer day started with bright sunlight ..I was actually missing something-lemonade or sprite?..No,being alone most of the times can build the best confidence! I went out , and after searching for 2 hours in different shopping malls,I found a lipton darjeeling tea box worth Rs 100 .I came back with a joy..I made my morning tea at 1 PM that day,I had that alone..and promised to myself that I would never ever keep any of my loved things or loved ones away from me.That was a wonderful restart of my life..When we are away from home, we normally ignore things which we love most and that too for no great reasons, and that missing gap actually makes us weaker !
It was a wake up call for me that day..After that I never missed my cup of darjeeling tea..
And the most cherished experience was when at home I prepared tea ( we call it “bed tea” ,and it tastes the best if you have it before brushing your teeth) for my mom and we had it together at 5:30 in the morning ,Yes most of the times we discuss important things in the early morning ,while feeling fresh with a cup of darjeeling tea..that aroma & taste never let us sleep in life !

Hmm… I love tea too… aar aami regular chaa khachchi class 10 theke… But I agree fully the best tea is the BED tea and it works best when it is served and somehow it feels and tastes best in a hill station. I remember some surreal mornings in Darjeeling and Kalimpong and I feel lucky to have actually stayed in those places… Aar tar opor ei chaiier jonnoi tor aar amar alaap, I was blessed with a fren who shares so many of my passions!

You are lucky aise bhi…those places r any time the best..
but believe me the best bed tea is when we taste that w/o brushing our teeth..

Hey Archi…
Well, I must say its a cool post… subject seems so trivial unless read from your perspective. Great going
And you have succeeded in spoiling Sachin to have bed tea ( that too without brushing )… yaaks…
As they say one man’s nightmare is another’s dream…
Apr 13, 2009 @ 08:38:54

Tea… coffee are not good enough to wake me up on the morn…
But a sweet smile from her and a soft whisper near my ears, asking me to get up does the trick.
When I was not married, my father tried to wake me up and used to scold me for not getting up early. My wife does the same thing now…. the whispers/caresses did not continue long
But I agree, a good cup of tea catalyses you pretty quickly!
nice post Archita… keep it up…
regards,
Sam
